Classes

DSC_0420 Group classes are intentionally kept small and exclusive. JKD Colorado is not a commercial enterprise. Rather, it is a small group determined to perpetuate and maintain Bruce Lee's fighting method exactly as he taught it to his students.

Classes run twice per week and cost $60/month, and tuition is due the first class of the month. Make checks payable to Mike Gittleson.

How to Find Us

Group classes are held Wednesday and Sunday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm at Dancin' Dreams Studio.
Private lessons are also available.

We are passionate and committed to our practice. If you choose to join us, we expect the same commitment from you.

Be Prepared

DSC_0468 Classes start promptly at 7pm. Some of us will usually be there early doing warm-ups, such as skipping rope. Eat a proper meal and get yourself well-hydrated at least an hour before class so that you have enough energy for training. Wear loose-fitting exercise clothing, sweat pants or shorts and a t-shirt is appropriate. Be prepared to sweat. We train in shoes- a good pair of running shoes is highly recommended.

Please be respectful and check yourself for appropriate hygiene before arriving. Remember that you are going to be breathing heavily and sweating a lot in close proximity to other people. Although a foul odor might be effective for taking down an opponent, it is not appreciated in the class setting.

This class requires stamina and reasonable physical fitness. You should be prepared to push yourself past your limits in every class. Bruce Lee was a big proponent of physical fitness and we try to instill this into every student.

Please read about our new shoe policy

Here are some things you will likely want to bring with you:

  • A pair of running shoes
  • Jump rope
  • Water bottle
  • Mouth guard
  • Groin protector
  • Sweat towel

What You Should Expect

DSC_0473 We train for realistic fighting situations. Jeet Kune Do is not sport-fighting. Expect to be trading punches and kicks with another person in every class. We generally begin with focus pad drills and/or footwork drills. You will learn specific techniques and how to combine your techniques with fast-moving footwork.

There are no gis, boards, or katas like in Karate or Tae Kwon Do classes. Everything you learn is immediately practical and geared towards real fighting. We do not fight by MMA-style rules-- eye-gouging and groin-kicking are perfectly acceptable techniques in JKD. Since JKD is based on the principle of interception, prepare to have feet and fists moving at you while you learn. As rough as this sounds, rarely do injuries occur. You will learn how to control your attacks for the sake of drills and avoid injury to yourself and others.
